In a small saucepan, bring the vinegar, sugar, oil, and garlic to a boil. Add the onion and simmer for about 2 minutes. Remove the garlic.

Pour the hot dressing over the cabbage. Toss to combine. Season with salt and pepper. Cover and refrigerate for about 30 minutes. Adjust the seasoning.
