  • 2 pears, peeled, cored and diced
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) currants
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) shelled pecans, toasted and coarsely chopped
  • Maple syrup

  1. In a saucepan over medium-high heat, toast the oats in the butter for 2 minutes. Add the water and salt. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer gently, uncovered, until the oatmeal thickens and is tender, 25 to 30 minutes, stirring frequently, especially toward the end.
