  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) water
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) vanilla extract
  • 7 oz (200 g) almond paste (marzipan), cut into pieces
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 tablespoons (45 ml) unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) sliced almonds
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) sugar
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) lemon juice or water

  1. Place all the ingredients in a large saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer until the pears are tender, 10 to 30 minutes depending on their ripeness.
