  • 1/2 lb (225 g) ground pork
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) vegetable oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 cup (180 g) canned kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 2/3 cups (400 ml) store-bought sweet or spicy salsa
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) ketchup
  • 8 long hot dog sausages
  • 8 long hot dog buns
  • 1 1/2 cups (150 g) sharp cheddar cheese, grated

  1. In a pot over high heat, brown the meat and onion in the oil, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Add the garlic and chili powder and cook for 1 minute, stirring to coat the meat. Season with salt and pepper. Add the beans, salsa, and ketchup. Bring to a boil. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes. Adjust the seasoning. Keep warm.
  2. In a pan of boiling water, cook the sausages for 5 minutes. Drain. Toast the buns or warm them in the oven.
  3. Place the sausages in the buns. Top with the chili and cheese.
