Instructions

    In a large pot over medium heat, brown the bacon in the oil. Using a slotted spoon, remove the bacon from the pot and drain in a bowl lined with paper towels.

    In the same pot over high heat, cook the beef in the bacon fat, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until starting to brown. Add the onions and cook for another 3 minutes. Add the garlic and spices. Cook for 1 minute longer while stirring. Add the broth, beans, tomatoes and bacon. Mix well. Bring to a boil. Simmer for 50 minutes or until the chili has thickened, stirring regularly while cooking. Adjust the seasoning.
