Pear Strudel 


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups (375 ml) flour
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup (75 ml) hot water
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) vegetable oil
  • 6 pears or 6 apples, peeled, cored and sliced
  • Juice of 1/2 a lemon
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) golden raisins
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) sugar
  • 1 cup (250 ml) graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) melted butter
  • Icing sugar, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the flour and sugar. Make a well in the centre and add the remaining ingredients. Stir until the dough forms a soft ball, add a little flour if necessary.
  2. Knead the dough for 2 minutes, then beat it on the counter back and forth 100 times, the whole process is expected to take about ten minutes. Knead for another 5 minutes. The dough should be smooth and elastic.
  3. Cover in plastic wrap and let stand at room temperature for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
