Mozzarella “Fries”

Mozzarella “fries.” These fried mozzarella sticks make a great snack for kids and are quick and easy to prepare. Featured in the book Ma cuisine week-end Book (French Version)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (75 g) unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (65 g) Italian breadcrumbs (see note)
  • 1 egg
  • 9 oz (250 g) mozzarella, cut into ½ x 3-inch (1 x 7.5 cm) sticks
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a shallow bowl, place the flour. In another shallow bowl, lightly beat the egg. In a third shallow bowl, place the breadcrumbs.
  2. Dredge the cheese sticks in the flour, shaking off any excess. Dip in the egg, then coat in the breadcrumbs, pressing lightly so they will adhere to the cheese sticks. Place on a plate and freeze for 30 minutes for easier handling during cooking, if desired.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the cheese sticks in the oil. Serve hot or warm as a starter.
