Tofu Shish Taouk Plate

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) sour cream
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) honey
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 blocks extra firm or firm tofu (3/4 lb/340g each), each block torn into 24 pieces
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) olive oil
  • Store-bought tabbouleh
  • Store-bought hummus
  • Store-bought garlic sauce
  • Store-bought pickled turnips
  • Pita breads
  • Olives

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the sour cream, lemon juice, honey, garlic powder, allspice, oregano, salt and cornstarch. Add the tofu. Season with pepper. Mix well with a spatula to coat the tofu with the sauce.
  2. In a large non-stick skillet over medium heat, brown half of the tofu at a time in 1 tbsp (15 ml) of the oil for 2 minutes, without stirring. Continue cooking while stirring just until the tofu is browned on all sides.
  3. Serve the tofu at the centre of the table with the toppings of your choice.
