Oranges Macerated in Cinnamon and Lemon

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup (70 g) sugar
  • 1/3 cup (75 ml) water
  • 1 cinnamon stick, about 2 inches (5 cm) long
  • 1/2 lemon, zest finely grated
  • 1/2 lemon, sliced into 3 rounds and seeded
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) lemon juice
  • 3 oranges, peel and pith removed, sliced into thin rounds

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, bring the sugar, water, cinnamon, zest, lemon rounds and juice to a boil. Simmer for about 1 minute or until the sugar has completely dissolved.
  2. Spread the orange slices out in a baking dish and pour the hot syrup over them. Let cool.
  3. Drain the orange slices. Discard the cinnamon stick and lemon slices.
