Maple Syrup Baked Apples

Place the rack in the middle position.

Preheat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F).

In an ovenproof saucepan, bring the maple syrup to a boil.

Place the apples upright in the pan and bake for 15 minutes. Flip the apples upside down and continue baking for 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, blend the maple sugar, flour, butter, oats and salt until crumbly.

Remove the apples from the oven and place in a 20-cm (8-inch) baking dish. Cover with the topping mixture. Bake for an additional 15 minutes.

Over medium heat, reduce the apple cooking syrup by two thirds for a nice sauce.

At service, drizzle the sauce over the hot apple and serve with vanilla ice cream, if desired.
