In a pot over medium-high heat, soften the garlic in the oil with the red pepper flakes for 1 minute. Deglaze with the wine and let reduce until almost dry. Add the tomatoes and simmer for 15 minutes or until they have burst. Season with salt and pepper. Remove from the heat.

Using a potato masher, crush the tomatoes until the sauce is smooth. Cook for another 5 minutes. Remove from the heat. Add the clams (see note). Adjust the seasoning.
