Glazed Meatballs with Green Apple and Basil

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) water
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) mirin
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 lb (225 g) lean ground pork
  • 1/4 cup (15 g) panko bread crumbs
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) fish sauce
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) sambal oelek
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup (10 g) basil, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 green apple, cored and cut into bite-sized triangles 1/4 inch (5 mm) thick
  • Small basil leaves

Instructions

  1. In a small pot, bring all the ingredients to a boil. Simmer for 5 minutes or until the glaze is very thick and syrupy. Cover and set aside.
