Asian-Style Fried Tofu
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup (75 ml) breadcrumbs
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) onion powder
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) sesame seeds
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) black sesame seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) peppercorn mix, crushed
- 1/2 tsp (2.5 ml) paprika
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) coriander seeds, crushed
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) dried basil
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons (10 ml) soy sauce
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) flour
- 1 block 450 g firm tofu, cut into 1/2-inch (1.25-cm) cubes
- 2 teaspoons (10 ml) untoasted sesame oil
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) olive oil
- 1/3 cup (75 ml) olive oil
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) Dijon mustard
- 2 teaspoons (10 ml) soy sauce
- 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoons (15 ml) fresh coriander, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) grated lime zest
- Juice of 1 lime
- 2 teaspoons (10 ml) fresh ginger, grated
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine all the ingredients for Flavored Breadcrumbs.
- In another bowl, beat the eggs and soy sauce. Place the flour on a plate and roll in the tofu cubes to cover well. Shake off the excess. Place the tofu in the egg mixture let soak. Coat the tofu in the flavoured breadcrumbs.
- In a skillet, fry the tofu in the sesame and olive oil over medium heat until it browns. Place on a paper towels.
- In a bowl, blend the sauce ingredients.
- On a plate, arrange the hot tofu bites and serve with the sauce. Use some nice picks or toothpicks for serving.
