Sesame Grilled Beef with Napa Cabbage and Cilantro Slaw
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp (45 ml) chili garlic sauce (see note)
- 3 tbsp (45 ml) low-sodium soy sauce
- 3 tbsp (45 ml) hoisin sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) toasted sesame oil
- 1 ½ tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 2.2 lb (1 kg) sliced Korean-style beef short rib (about 8 slices, each ½ inch/1 cm thick) (see note)
- White sesame seeds, to taste
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) lime juice
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- 6 cups (420 g) napa cabbage, thinly sliced
- 1 cup (30 g) cilantro leaves, plus more for serving
- 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 large carrot, julienned
- Black sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
- In a large dish, combine the chili sauce, soy sauce, hoisin, brown sugar, sesame oil and spices. Add the meat and coat well in the marinade. Cover and let marinate for 1 hour or overnight in the refrigerator.
