Vanilla and Caramel Marble Cake

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) water
  • 2 cups (500 ml) sugar
  • 1 cup (250 ml) 35% cream, hot
  • 3 3/4 cups (930 ml) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) cornstarch
  • 4 teaspoons (20 ml) baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cups (375 ml) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups (500 ml) sugar
  • 7 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons (10 ml) vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (250 ml) milk
  • 3/4 cup (180 ml) caramel sauce (recipe above)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, bring the water and sugar to a boil. Cook until the mixture turns golden brown. Remove the pan from the heat and gradually stir in the cream. Return the pan to the heat and simmer gently for 1 minute. Stir to blend. Pour into a bowl and allow to cool.
