Red Wine Sangria (The Best)
Is there anything better than a cold glass of sangria on a hot day? This Spanish cocktail goes hand-in-hand with long summer afternoons spent out on the patio. With our recipe, your poolside will be transported to Barcelona or the Costa del Sol.
Ingredients
- 2 cups (500 ml) orange juice
- 1 orange, cut into thin slices
- 1 citron, juice only
- 1/2 cup (105 g) sugar
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) cognac
- 1 bottle (3 cups/750 ml) red wine
- 1 peach, pitted and cut into thin slices, plus more for serving
- 1 green or red apple, unpeeled, cored and cut into thin slices, plus more for serving
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- Ice cubes
Instructions
- In a pot, bring the orange juice, orange slices, lemon juice, sugar and cognac to a boil. Simmer for 1 minute. Remove from the heat and let cool.
- In a large pitcher, combine the wine, peach, apple and cinnamon sticks with the cooled orange syrup. Cover and let marinate overnight in the refrigerator.
- Strain the sangria through a sieve placed over a large measuring cup or pitcher, if desired. When ready to serve, add more fresh fruit and ice cubes.
