Christmas Spiced Rum

Ingredients

  • 1 orange, scrubbed clean
  • 1 lemon, scrubbed clean
  • 1 1/2 cups (375 ml) dark rum
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 cloves
  • 1 whole nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Using a vegetable peeler, remove the zest from the orange and the lemon. Transfer to a 2-cup (500 ml) glass jar. Add the remaining ingredients and mix to combine. Seal the jar. Let macerate for 1 week at room temperature.
  2. Filter the rum through a sieve set over a bowl. Transfer the rum back into the glass jar. Keep the orange and lemon zests to decorate the glasses, if desired. Compost the aromatics.
  3. Serve the spiced rum over ice or in a cocktail.
