Middle Eastern-Style Burgers
Ingredients
- 4 merguez sausage, removed from their casing
- 1/2 lb (225 g) ground veal
- 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) sesame seeds
- 4 slices Spanish red onion
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) olive oil
- 4 hamburger sesame buns
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) hummus (homemade or store-bought)
- Dijon mustard
- 4 slices tomato
- Lettuce
- Salt and pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the grill, setting the burners to medium.
- In a bowl with your hands, combine the sausage meat, ground veal and garlic. Lightly season with salt. Shape into thin patties. Sprinkle with sesame seeds on both sides.
- Meanwhile, grill the onions. Set aside.
- Set the burners to high. Grill the patties for about 3 minutes per side or until they are thoroughly cooked. Toast the buns.
- Generously spread hummus onto the bottom portion of the each bun.
- Layer with a patty, grilled onions, Dijon mustard, a tomato slice, and lettuce.
