Christmas Spiced Rum
Ingredients
- 1 orange, scrubbed clean
- 1 lemon, scrubbed clean
- 1 1/2 cups (375 ml) dark rum
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 3 cloves
- 1 whole nutmeg
Instructions
- Using a vegetable peeler, remove the zest from the orange and the lemon. Transfer to a 2-cup (500 ml) glass jar. Add the remaining ingredients and mix to combine. Seal the jar. Let macerate for 1 week at room temperature.
- Filter the rum through a sieve set over a bowl. Transfer the rum back into the glass jar. Keep the orange and lemon zests to decorate the glasses, if desired. Compost the aromatics.
- Serve the spiced rum over ice or in a cocktail.
