Galaktoboureko (Ouzo Cream-Filled Pastries)
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 lb (454 g) phyllo dough, thawed (see note)
- Ground cinnamon
- 2 cups (500 ml) sugar
- 1 cup (250 ml) water
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 strip orange zest
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1 cup (250 ml) sugar
- 1 cup (250 ml) flour
- 5 cups (1.25 litres) milk
- 3 tablespoons (45 ml) Ouzo
- 4 eggs
Instructions
- In a saucepan, heat the sugar and water until the sugar has dissolved. Add the cinnamon, orange zest and lemon juice. Bring to a boil and simmer for 15 minutes. Allow to cool. Remove the cinnamon and zest. Set aside.
