Apple Turnover
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) sugar
- 2 teaspoons (10 ml) cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) ground cinnamon
- 3 McIntosh apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) lemon juice
- 2 1/4 cups (560 ml) unbleached all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) sugar
- 2 teaspoons (10 ml) baking powder
- A pinch of salt
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) unsalted butter, melted and cooled at room temperature
- 2 eggs
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) cold water, approximately
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) ground cinnamon
- Oil for frying
- 1 egg white, lightly beaten
Instructions
- In a saucepan off the heat, combine the sugar, cornstarch and cinnamon. Add the apples and lemon juice. Bring to a boil and cook for about 3 minutes, stirring, until the apples have slightly softened. Cool and refrigerate until completely chilled.
