Chicken Wings with Apple Cider Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients
- 1 bottle (330 ml) sparkling or flat apple cider
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) ketchup
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) apple jelly
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
- 12 whole chicken wings (see note)
- 1 cup (110 g) McIntosh apples, peeled, cored and diced (about 1 large apple)
- 1 tsp (5 ml) apple jelly
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) vegetable oil
- 2 tsp (10 ml) prepared yellow mustard
- Chives, finely chopped, for serving
Instructions
- In a pot, bring all of the ingredients to a boil while whisking. Season with salt. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has reduced to 1 cup (250 ml).
- Set aside 6 tbsp (90 ml) of the sauce in a small bowl until ready to serve.
