Sautéed Celery Sticks

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 3 tbsp (45 ml) chicken broth
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) mirin
  • 3/4 lb (340 g) celery stalks, cut into sticks 2 inches (5 cm) long
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp roasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch with the broth, soy sauce and mirin until smooth.
  2. In a wok or a large, deep skillet over high heat, sauté the celery, garlic and red pepper flakes in the oil while stirring for 1 minute or until the celery and garlic start to brown. Pour in the broth mixture. Cook for another 2 minutes or until the liquid has evaporated and the celery is al dente and shiny. Sprinkle with the sesame seeds. Serve as a vegetable side-dish.
