Hot Cereal with Fresh Fruit

We can’t say it enough: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But it’s also one of the most challenging, because there’s so little time. Our solution? This bowl of quick, effortless and irresistibly good (for you) hot cereal and fresh fruit, which can basically be prepared in 20 minutes flat.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (135 g) multi-grain flakes (see note)
  • 3 cups (750 ml) water
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 peach, pitted and thinly sliced
  • 1 banana, sliced
  • 1/2 cup (75 g) blueberries
  • 1/2 cup (70 g) raspberries
  • 1/4 cup (45 g) roasted almonds, chopped
  • Plain yogurt
  • Maple syrup

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, pulse the flakes until they reach the consistency of semolina, a grainy flour.
  2. In a pot, bring the water, multi-grain flakes semolina and salt to a boil. Cover and cook over low heat for 8 to 10 minutes or until the semolina is cooked and has a creamy texture. Remove from the heat and let sit for 10 minutes.
  3. Divide the hot cereal between bowls. Top with the fruit, almonds and yogurt and drizzle with maple syrup. Serve immediately.
