White Ale Waffles

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle (341 ml) white ale
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) water
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup (55 g) sugar
  • 2 cups (300 g) unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup (75 g) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the beer, water, yeast, and sugar. Let stand for 5 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla to the beer mixture. Add the dry ingredients and whisk for 2 minutes. Add the butter and whisk until the batter is smooth. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let rest for 1 hour in a warm, draft-free place.
  4. Preheat the waffle iron. Pour about 1/3 cup (75 ml) of batter per cavity. Close the waffle iron and cook for about 5 minutes or until golden brown. Keep warm. Repeat with the remaining batter.
