Tofu Shish Taouk Plate
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) sour cream
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) lemon juice
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) honey
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp ground allspice
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 blocks extra firm or firm tofu (3/4 lb/340g each), each block torn into 24 pieces
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) olive oil
- Store-bought tabbouleh
- Store-bought hummus
- Store-bought garlic sauce
- Store-bought pickled turnips
- Pita breads
- Olives
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the sour cream, lemon juice, honey, garlic powder, allspice, oregano, salt and cornstarch. Add the tofu. Season with pepper. Mix well with a spatula to coat the tofu with the sauce.
- In a large non-stick skillet over medium heat, brown half of the tofu at a time in 1 tbsp (15 ml) of the oil for 2 minutes, without stirring. Continue cooking while stirring just until the tofu is browned on all sides.
- Serve the tofu at the centre of the table with the toppings of your choice.
