Slow-Cooker Sweet and Sour Beef
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) sugar
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) cornstarch
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) rice vinegar
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) hoisin sauce
- 1 1/2 cups (375 ml) beef broth
- 2 lbs (1 kg) boneless beef scoter or chuck roast
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) olive oil
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) sesame oil
- 16 whole green onions
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) fresh ginger, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) sambal oelek
- Salt and pepper
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine brown sugar and cornstarch. Add vinegar, hoisin sauce and broth with a whisk. Set aside.
- In a large skillet, brown meat in oil. Season with salt and pepper. Place in slow cooker. Brown onions, ginger, garlic and sambal oelek in the hot skillet, adding oil, if needed. Deglaze with broth mixture. Bring to a boil. Transfer to cooker. Cover and cook for 5 hours on low.
- Serve with rice and a green vegetable.
