Corn Dogs

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (120 g) corn flour
  • 2/3 cup (100 g) unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup (250 ml) buttermilk
  • 12 sausages
  • Oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oil in the deep fryer to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a bowl, combine the flours, sugar, baking powder and salt. Make a well in the centre and pour in the egg and buttermilk. Blend until smooth.
  3. Slide a wooden skewer into the centre of each sausage. Coat well in the batter, one at a time. Fry two sausages at a time, until the batter is golden brown, about 5 minutes. Watch out for splattering. Keep warm while you repeat with the remaining sausages.
  4. Serve with mustard or ketchup.
