Air Fryer General Tao Tofu
It’s impossible for our most popular recipe to not have a version for the air fryer. Make the sauce in a skillet while the tofu cooks in the appliance. You’ll save 10 minutes of prep time compared with the original version!
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450 g) firm tofu, cubed
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) vegetable oil
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 3 tbsp (45 ml) maple syrup
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) ketchup
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) hoisin sauce
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) toasted sesame oil
- 1 tsp (5 ml) fresh ginger, chopped
- 1 tsp (5 ml) sambal oelek
- 2 garlic cloves, chopped
- 2 green onions, cut into pieces 1/2 inch (1 cm) long
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the tofu and oil. Add the cornstarch and toss well to coat the tofu. Season with salt and pepper.
- Spread the tofu out in the basket of an air fryer. Cook for 10 minutes at 400°F (200°C). Stir and continue to cook for 5 minutes or until the tofu is slightly crispy (see note).
