Maple Syrup Baked Apples
Ingredients
- 1 cup (250 ml) maple syrup
- 6 whole apples, cored (see note)
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) granulated maple sugar
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) flour
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) quick-cooking oats
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
- Place the rack in the middle position.
- Preheat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F).
- In an ovenproof saucepan, bring the maple syrup to a boil.
- Place the apples upright in the pan and bake for 15 minutes. Flip the apples upside down and continue baking for 15 minutes.
- Meanwhile, blend the maple sugar, flour, butter, oats and salt until crumbly.
- Remove the apples from the oven and place in a 20-cm (8-inch) baking dish. Cover with the topping mixture. Bake for an additional 15 minutes.
- Over medium heat, reduce the apple cooking syrup by two thirds for a nice sauce.
- At service, drizzle the sauce over the hot apple and serve with vanilla ice cream, if desired.
