Deep-Fried Chocolate Bars

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups (150 g) pastry flour, preferable (for a crispy texture)
  • 1/4 cup (35 g) icing sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) water
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tbsp (20 g) pastry flour
  • 4 chocolate bars, cut in half crosswise
  • 8 wood or bamboo skewers about 6 inches (15 cm) long
  • Canola oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oil in a deep fryer to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with paper towels or set a cooling rack on it.
  2. In a bowl, combine the dry flour, icing sugar, baking powder and salt. Add the water and the egg. Whisk together until the batter is smooth. Pour into a large shallow bowl. Set aside.
