Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) beef flank steak (see note)
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 lb (450 g) broccoli, cut into florets
  • 3 tbsp (45 ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced, white and green parts separated
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1 small carrot, cut in half lengthwise and thinly sliced into halfmoons
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, chopped
  • 1/3 cup (75 ml) water
  • 3 tbsp (45 ml) low-sodium soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp (45 ml) oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) toasted sesame oil

Instructions

  1. On a work surface, slice the steak against the grain. In a bowl, combine the meat with the baking soda. Let marinate for 15 minutes (see note).
  2. Rinse the meat under cold running water. Drain and pat dry with paper towels. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Meanwhile, in a pot of salted boiling water, blanch the broccoli for 2 minutes. Drain.
